Japan highlights link between Euro-Atlantic, Indo-Pacific security

(MENAFN) Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said Wednesday that Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security are "indivisible" following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos, Switzerland.

Koizumi highlighted that collaboration between Japan and NATO, as well as NATO’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific Four—Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea—is becoming increasingly strategic, posting the remarks on the US social media platform X. He also committed to strengthening Japan-NATO cooperation.

This meeting marked Koizumi’s first face-to-face discussion with Rutte since assuming office in 2025. Last year, Japan opened its Mission to NATO in Brussels as a standalone entity separate from its embassy in Belgium. Koizumi additionally met Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans and Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajic.
